Lets see what Jesus had to say to Peter when Peter tried to dissuade Him from dying on the Cross and had NO idea what Christ was going to accomplish:

Mt. 16:21-23"From that time forth began Jesus to show unto His disciples (the 12), how He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be KILLED and be RAISED AGAIN the third day,

Then Peter took him (Jesus) and began to rebuke HIM, saying Be it far from thee, Lord; this shall not be unto thee.

But HE (Jesus) turned and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me Satan (whaaaaaaat? the apostle that supposedly KNEW the gospel and all about the purpose of the Cross?Huh)

Thou art an offense unto ME; for thou savorest NOT THE THINGS THAT ARE OF GOD, but THOSE THAT ARE of MEN."

Now tell me that Peter knew all about the death, burial and resurrection of Christ and preached it! Obviously Christ didnt think he did...and HE soundly thumped Peter for"reacting" instead of LISTENING!!

Yeah, that's right!  Peter heard all that Jesus said about what was going to take place.  It obviously seemed like he wasn't listening.
That's pretty ironic, someone who was so close to Jesus, and yet not get what He said about dying on the cross.

It wasn't until Peter wrote his books that he finally understood salvation right?

Peter understood that Paul was given a new gospel for a new audience...the nations/gentiles..after Paul went to them and explained. He tells us in Acts 15 at the Jerusalem council that he and the other disciples gave to Paul the right hand of fellowship and that they PERCEIVED that the gospel given to Paul was indeed different. They limited their ministry to the circumcision while they acknowledged that it was now PAUL who was to go to the nations and not Israel...due to UNBELIEF.

Peter understood the salvation message that was committed to HIM. That was the gospel of the CIRCUMCISION having to do with the law of Moses.
