Should we be WORRIED about Sin?

Real peace comes from learning about God's eternal plan and the security it brings.
Also, for lost secular unbelievers, restricting one's thoughts to the present is more logical (at least to them). After all, for one who does not believe, the Godless past only holds evolution and random chance, and the future holds sickness, death, and decay. Thus it seems logical to him that the present moment is all he has, and his brief existence in this life is the closest thing to peace he will ever know.
But as Christians, we know that God knew us and chose us in the ancient past (if not in eternity past) before He even created this world.
Ephesians 1:3-4 says, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world ...." And we will live forever in the very presence of God. Today we are to live for Him and do His will. But we have His love and blessing for all time, from eternity past to eternity future.
Regrets over the past? It is only natural for us as humans to regret past sins or mistakes or regret bad things that have happened to us. But when we look at things from a spiritual, Biblical perspective, regrets quickly wither into nothing.
One major key to this is that God has forgiven us of
ALL
our sins (Colossians 2:13 & 3:13).
"LISTEN UP" HERE...CAREFULLY:
So why should I beat myself up about them, when God has wiped the slate clean? Did you hear that? Why?
?
Also, who could have had more regrets than our Apostle Paul? He was a persecutor of Christians with a bitter hatred (Acts 9:1-2), and even gave his voice to have Christians put to death (Acts 26:10). But once he was saved, Paul accounted all of his prior life as "dung" (Philippians 3:8 ) and moved on teaching, evangelizing, and doing the will of God.
Anxiety about the future?
Philippians 4:6 says, "Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." In Matthew 6:31-33, Jesus told Israel, "... take no thought (be not anxious), saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? ... for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
We can look forward to the rapture, the hope of church. 1 Thessalonians 2:19 says, "For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?" Later in that same epistle, Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18, "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words." So the future should not be a source of anxiety for us, but a source of comfort.
There is much to learn in God's Word in the lessons of past events and much to look forward to in the glorious future that God has for us and all of His people from all dispensations. God created the world in the past and gave the life of His Son for our sins and raised Him from the dead. In the future, He will raise us from the dead (or translate us at the rapture) and will bring in His kingdom. Even the prayer that Jesus taught the apostles included a plea for God to bring in His future Kingdom which had been repeatedly promised in the past.
So in summary, the proper way to avoid regrets and anxiety is not to avoid thinking of the past and future. Instead we are to look at things from the Christian perspective, realizing that we are forgiven of ALL our sins and that we are eternally in Jesus Christ. Then regrets and anxiety have no home.
Now aint THAT good news?

Have you noticed how many professing BELIEVERS are so focused on "SIN?" Why do you see that as OK, or why do you see it as a common misconception based on faulty information?
This would make a very interesting discussion....whaddaya say?
Let's TALK....LOL

Why is it that most "professing Christians" you meet today are so focused on "SIN?" Has anyone else noticed that? What SHOULD be our focus as Grace Believers?

Good question Christine,
"Sorry" seems to be ingrained in us. Have you noticed how "sorry" we are, even among the secular world. The next time you go to Walmart/grocery store/department store, and are moving around someone elses cart; or they are moving around yours; or you almost bump someone; etc...count how many times you and/or they say/mumble the word, "sorry". "Oh...sorry". "Excuse me...sorry." "Oops...sorry." "Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry!" We're a sorry bunch of people.
We feel like we have to show people how humble and sorry we are in order to be a good Christian. We're in church singin' and cryin' and wailin', and the preacher's workin' us into a frenzy. Pretty soon we're on the floor lookin' like a bunch of gummi worms wigglin' around and everybody's trying to hold us down and "excersizing demons" from us or something. Well...ok...I guess that's more of a Pentecostal thing. Growing up in the Church of Christ if you uttered/whispered more than an occasional "amen" you had to attend lessons taught by an elder about how not to show any emotion in church, and for goodness sakes don't clap. Anything more than one clap and you might start a rythm, and that would be instrumental music!...Lord forgive you of that one.
We all come from different practices/religions of being sorry. Ever notice that?
Focusing on sin is a pre-cross thing.
"Lord forgive me for breaking commandments #2, #5, and #8, today. I'll beat myself with my pre-cross, leather embossed handled, whip...and by the way I'll put another dove on the fire for sacrifice."
We are post-cross believers!
"Lord thank you for forgiving my sins on the cross...all of them from yesterday, through today, and from now on. Thank you for taking my sin debt...literally taking the whipping for me...supplying yourself as a sacrifice for me, the one time, perfect sacrifice. Thank you for freeing me from the bondage of the law and help me to stay focused on you and not on the world."
We live in the dispensation of, "Thank you Lord"...not, "Sorry Lord".

That's true! I'm always apologizing, especially when I bump someone's grocery cart!! LOL!! I do! Aren't we supposed too?
I've received the Lords forgiveness, but what about when we do something to someone. Doesn't the other person need to receive our apology?
I guess I don't understand what you're saying Kab. . . . .sorry!!

LOL!
Sure we apologize when we do something wrong to someone else, but when we're navigating Walmart, I bet I'll hear 50 "sorry's" in one trip. Just a pet peeve of mine, when all they have to do is say, "excuse me", or "how ya doin?", or "do you know where the marinated canned crawdads are?", or "dude you're really buff...do you work out?"
I hear that last one a lot!
LOL! LOL! LOL!

Hi!
Would this scripture apply to us. . .
1 John 2:1
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous

First, we need to see to whom it IS written. Since John is a minister to the circumcision, we can rest assured that this is scripture applying directly to them simply by its author and address.
Our sin is already forgiven...PAST TENSE...every single sin was FUTURE when Christ died for them. That puts all my sins in the category of PAST TENSE forgiveness ...we get OUR forgiveness "up front" before we even know when we WILL sin.
The focus is NOT sin for the believer, but the sin bearer and His finished work.

I remember reading a thread here about how Believer focus on sin, lol. I get it!
We don't worry about that, because of what our Lord has done for us. That shouldn't be an issue, and not dwell on that.
I needed to explain to my dad this. I have been talking to him about the gospel of grace and the mystery, but he's not getting it. He is so focused on sin and he thinks there are bad sins and mild sins, from his Catholic upbringing no doubt. The one thing he always brings up is adultry. He keeps saying how he's not going to commit that sin, that I can tell it bothers him.
I don't know what else to tell him, except give him scripture. I'm believeing the Lord will open his heart to hear.
Thank you!!

Nothing better than God's Word to convict the conscience, and the Holy Spirit to convict the heart. That's all anyone can do...share the Truth.

Wow, Diana! We will continue praying for him. Gods Word is powerful and He desperately wants for people to BELIEVE in the totality of what He accomplished on Calvary.
Isn't it awesome when we can actually SEE someone GET IT?
Keep us posted on him, Diana...we are so excited to hear this news.
