Well said, Darryl.

God has gifted so many people in so many ways that much of what was healed miraculously in the time of Jesus' earthly ministry can be healed medically/naturally today.  People often mistake modern abilities of doctors and the body's amazing capacity for healing itself for miracles.
If more would read the Bible in context there would be more right dividers...eh? Wink

What Would Jesus Do? He would have ignored you, you're a Gentile!      Now aren't you glad He sent Paul to the world with a message of grace!

Hello Darryl,
It just hit me. If I had no assurance of spiritual blessings and was in doubt as to the permanence of my salvation, which fits the Pentecostal position, then I'd probably be grabbing at all the physical blessings I could nab, too. Healing, wisdom, tongues, etc. You name it. By golly, since I don't have assurance of salvation GOD is gonna give me something for being a Christian! Bless their hearts! Their position in CHRIST is so shaky, they have to "manifest" some sign gifts just to feel like they got anything from GOD!

Hi Y'all,
Mac, I haven't spoken to you as of yet, but Christine knows that I have been having a TIME with my sister, who is Pentecostal, along these same lines! At my last meeting with her, I was accused of "denying the power of the Holy Ghost", since I told her that God has set these things aside. I assured her that I would never deny the power of the Holy Ghost, knowing that the Holy Ghost is God, and God can heal as he will, and do whatever else He will. He is GOD!
I should have been firm, and told her that what I was denying was that the Holy Ghost was what they had going on at church, where the tongues, etc. were concerned. I DID ask her why, if they had the gifts, weren't they raising the dead there! She told me that they were doing so, overseas............ this led to a small dissension, which I backed out of.
It is hard when people that you love are caught up in these beliefs. I can only pray for her, and try to live what I learn, and hope for God to do the rest.
YBIC,
Darryl

Yes, that is so true.  And the constant effort to "manifest" something...is emotionally and spiritually devastating.

Now, I have never met a person who believes in healing today, not to believe in the speaking of tongues.  Has anyone else?

That's for sure!  The only thing they don't seem to have grown in is love!

There may be an exception somewhere...but I have never seen it!  False beliefs seem to grow false love.  I have seen plenty of that....

Did you know there are actual International Schools for gifts and tongue speaking?   I was sent to one in Red Deer, Alberta Canada when I was a young teenager... Oh the stories!!  It was hell on earth.

I used to go to this class called the School of the Holy Spirit.  It was based off of, Christian International in Fl.

Well we had to have a word of prophecy to give in an instant, speak in tongues and if we couldn't do that, we had no faith.  It was so much pressure on us.  That was hell on earth too!  Smiley

We were pentecostal 24/7! LOL!!!

I'm wondering where people got there "words" from.   Do you know that I was told that I would have children, but I first had to take care of Gods children.  I didn't know what that meant.  Was it the adults or the actual kids? LOL!!

They always said that Gods word was conditional.  Meaning works was involved.

Okay...just so I don't get confused.  You do not come from a Catholic background, but a Pentecostal background?  Did your parents then become Pentecostal...or vice versa?

We were Catholic, and Pentecostal by night, because it was not accepted by the RCC...the gifts, speaking in tongues, healing etc.   It is very interesting to know that today...it is QUITE acceptable in the RCC!

Well, those that the Lord has blessed me with, being part of their coming to know the Lord, I count them as spiritual children...and most of them are all adults.   Wink   Is that what you mean?

LOL,
I was brought up catholic, my parents were catholic.  When I got older, I attended a pentecostal church, my parents were still catholic.

So you and your parents were catholics by day and pentecostal by night?

Yes!  Only not my Father, or my older brothers either...it was also kept secret.  Quite a bit of intrigue huh... for a mother with her two young daughters.  We had prayer meetings in our home with the curtains drawn in the middle of the afternoons....  LOL
