Why do people say that the Earth is only about 6,000 years old? This is completely ridiculous.

First of all, there are countless celestial bodies that are more than 6,000 light-years away. For example, the Andromeda galaxy is 2.3 million light years-away. The fact that we can see the Andromeda Galaxy is proof that the universe is at least 2.3 million years old. If it was any younger, we would not be able to see it, because the light would not have reached our planet yet.

Many base that assumption on the exact times given in the Bible from the Creation on thru. Its funny, but there ARE folks who actually believe what God has to say about things, as He happened to have BEEN THERE.

Mankind think they are very smart, but I'm afraid that until we acknowledge that WE are the "creation" and NOT the CREATOR, our pride will get in the way and make our silly questions nothing more than an exercise in futility.

I am assuming you are a non believer from your comments so far here. You may continue to read but NOT to post.  We are just NOT INTERESTED in these debate issues that stem from not believing that there IS a God to begin with.

"A fool has said in his heart, there is NO God."

The age of the earth is a controversial issue among theologians and scientists alike.  The controversy is often used in arguments to establish a ‘truth or false’ condition on the existence (or non-existence) of God.

Since the purpose of this forum is not to challenge the existence of God, the issues of those arguments are irrelevant here.  We could become involved in many such speculative concerns (such as a pre-Adamite race or civilizations on other planets)  but there are many more important issues that need to be resolved before we embark on non-essential diversions from our goal.  That goal is primarily to bring all men to see the mystery truths that were given to Paul by Christ for our salvation.
