Why weren't the nuns happy and joyful, I would think to myself? Well now I know.

OH!!  You made me laugh at that one!  Yes, NUN is s misnomer...they should have been called NONE!

I did know lot's of wonderful Nuns though...with hearty laughs and twinkles in their eyes who loved to teach...  Sister Mary Grace also smoked!  And many of them had a glass of wine in the evenings, just as the priests did...though not the Franciscans.  Sister James taught the 9th graders to work with radioactive isotopes...and in the evenings put together plays for the school, really talented, and all the kids loved her.  She was my herioine for a long time... One thing good about Catholics, is you do receive one of the best educations...

It wasn't like that where I went to church.  I remember when my parents wanted to get remarried in the catholic church.  I was happy for them and was smling from ear to ear.  I turned around with my big ol grin and saw a nun sitting in a back pew.  When I saw her, I kept smiling and she gave me the dirtiest look as if to say, why are you smiling! LOL!!

 I never forgot that.  Cheesy

Oh yes...there were those.  Sister Marcella had to be 90 years old and 4 feet something tall...but she was mean.  She slapped the piano shut in absolute out of control anger when she realized I was playing by ear and not by notes, which I could not get....and broke some of my fingers.  No one ever said anything, they just fixed my fingers....

One had to learn who was who...and watch them carefully for signs.  LOL
