Hi Peter
Here, there.... we're easy to get along with! Tell us a little about yourself. How did you come to right division? Where did you attend church before you found it? A lot of us came from Church of Christ, Catholics, Baptists, and Pentecostals.
Actually, my dad's people were Italians, and ALL Roman Catholics..... my mom's family? Mormons! I myself have studied with the JW's when I was very young, thanks to my mom..... attended Southern Baptist churches mostly in my teens and adult life, then I began to earnestly seek God, and attended a Pentecostal church for about 2 1/2 years..... quite a difference from Southern Baptist, I can honestly say. Just as I was about to give up, and decide that there is no God, I literally stumbled into right division, and learned about the revelation of the mystery, and the distinctiveness of Paul's gospel, and where it came from. Things began to make sense, lightbulbs began coming on, so to speak, and I have not looked back. Right division is definitely the KEY to understanding the scriptures.
Hope you read the many helpful posts here, and learn all you can about the word of truth, rightly divided. If we can help in any way, just ask!

Your friend and brother in Christ,

Darryl

In reading some of these topics, there are some that are worth "resurrecting", no pun intended. I had many questions about water baptism. I do know that it is one of the MAIN points of division in the Body of Christ: church A does not recognize church B's baptism, or if you were baptized in church B, and want to begin being a "member" of church C, then you must be re-baptized..... and I began to really look, and try to understand, and here is what I discovered....
Whenever water baptism is mentioned in scripture, it is ALWAYS for the remisssion of sin, and NO other reason. Not as an outward sign of an inward decision, or to show someone that we are saved. ONLY for the remission of sin. This was not always so, either..... before John the Baptist came on the scene in Israel, the remission of sin was accomplished by the sacrificing of lambs, at the various Jewish feasts, when this was done. This was sort of a "loophole" that God allowed because Israel could not keep the whole law.
Then, along came John the Baptist after 400 years of silence from heaven, with new information: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand", and offering water baptism for the remission of sins, without so much as a single lamb being sacrificed! Animal sacrifice then, was superseded by repentance and water baptism for the remission of sin.
After the death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ, more new information came from heaven: the revelation of the mystery of Christ, and the preaching of the perfect and completed work of Christ on the cross for the complete remission of sins! God made another change! Water baptism and repentance for the remission of sin was now superseded by the preaching of the cross! Whho can deny this truth? No wonder the apostle Paul teaches us that Christ sent him not to baptize, but to preach the gospel (that was revealed to him), in 1 Corinthians 1:17. Hmmm..... looks like water baptism really only gets you wet! And THIS is what causes so much division in the Body of Christ?

Hey Mac!

I was prompted to post this subject when I heard an unbeliever tell me that we were not under the Law, but under grace. I did ssome reading up on it, and told him that he was not under grace until he came to grace through faith in Christ. He maintains differently, but the truth is there in black and white....

I only have one question..... every time that I read one of your posts, there is a different photo of you. How do you do that? It is like you have a slide-show program that changes your photo every time I click on something that you posted. I don't know how you do it, but it sure does tickle me to no end! I get lots of laughs...

Hi Adam!

Welcome to our forum... my name is Darryl, and I live in the Florida panhandle. Seattle, huh? I suppose you have heard of grunge rock, then? (HA!) Never been to Seattle, but I hear that it rains A LOT! I live just north of Panama City, Florida...... and yes, I have heard of SPRING BREAK! Actually, it is a pain in the neck! Having to work at the beach at that time of the year is terrible! Traffic, traffic, traffic...... aaarrggh!

Anyway, I hope that you feel welcome here, and if there is any way that I can help, do not hesitate to drop a line! Are you new to right division, as well as being new here? Pastor Trent is a good teacher of rightly dividing the word.... I have learned so much in the past year and almost a half.... it astounds me at times! But that is what we are supposed to do.... seek the truth of God, right? If you are new to right division, then you are finally on the right road, for the apostle Paul teaches us that rightly dividing the word of truth while we STUDY the word of God is what makes us workmen that will not need to be ashamed before God.

I salute you, and God bless, brother.

Your brother and friend in Christ,

Darryl
